Its already 80 west of permian basin
Why is that? All it simply means is the speed everyone was driving already in the areas that will be allowed to bump up to 85 will now be legal. Most people dont know it but most highways built within the last 20 years all have traffic plans showing an 85mph speed limit. Most of the newer roads can handle 85 and there will be people who will go even faster but those will be the same type that already pass your ass out 10 doing 90+ anyway.
Im actually surprised its gone this far in the legislative process since all this will really mean is less revenue for the state off tickets. At this point it has only passed the house anyway and if you actually read the bill it only applies to NEW roads. The old roads will have to have traffic studies done to assess the viability of bumping the speed limit up and as of right now TXDOT is broke. The money will have to come from bonds which arent going to be on the ballot for quite some time. Hell TXDOT doesnt even have any money to build anything right now, the toll road we're building right now is funded by a Spanish company who will own all rights to the road for the next 50 years.

I always dive between 70-90mph. Still get passed all the time. I think it is a decent idea, but agree with 1slow01z71 it will take for ever to take effect. TXDOT is in no hurry to do anything with out years of study. Then they decide the project was not worth the effort and abandon it. Wonder why they are broke?
