'01 was the first year of the Duramax dufus.

The LB7, which was the first DirtyMax (01-04) are known over the other variants to have injector issues. And the labor costs are high cause you have to remove the heads to switch out the injectors. There were also complaints of overheating issues. BUT I have heard of the other ones having the issues as well. The injectors come with a 100,000 mile warranty.

The LLY was the next one...some 04s had them--but continued into 06. They had the revised head design which allowed for the injectors to be replaced without removing the heads. The LLY is definitely better than the LB7.

The LBZ (early 06-07 Classic) was the one matched up to the 6 speed Allison. The LBZ was the best Duramax of the NBS trucks. This is the one to get if possible, but the LLY is good as well.

The LMM is in the NNBS trucks, and is pretty much the same as the LLY, but it has the DPF choking it back.

Moze, diesels are great, don't get me wrong. They are for an intended purpose, and require good routine maintenance. They are also a little more expensive to run, but they make better power and have better mpgs than their gas counterparts.

Good point. The 6.0L will be more than enough for what you wanna do, as a typical DD. But you know what a tune and minor bolt ons can do to the performance and mpgs!

If you want a diesel, get a Cummins. Conversation over.

Damn, sorry. I was going off the top of my head--what I know without having to visit another site or post links. Sadly, I know more about the Cummins (4BT and 6BT) and Powerjoke.

Cummins might be a good engine, but every thing around the engine sucks. I hate dodge trucks. Chevrolet ALL THE WAY.
