Tell me what you know about the ol' Duramax's

    I'm undecided whether I'm getting a Duramax or an HD2500 with a 6.0l.

Any info you guys have about pros and cons would be greatly appreciated.

I've been told some of the Duramax's hd some years with bad injectors...possibly some other problems...?

I think it comes down to towing whether to get the gasser or the diesel. If your not going to be doign that much then just get the 6.0

Don't diesels typically outlast gas engines? That's kind of why I was considering them.

Think its the 01' and unders that had injector issues but if you find one of that year model, the problems most likely have been fixed by the owners... or should have been anyway. I'm in the market for one myself and haven't resorted to selling my baby yet

I am planning on buying one. You want an 06 with an lbz motor. Strongest and best made duramax. The new ones are LMMs but they have a diesel particulate filter that restricts them somewhat.
Talk to Mic and 01slowz71/ Cody. I think midnightrider just got one also. The 06 also has the 6 speed allison trans. I drove an 06 the other day and would have it but it was red. The lbz engine has a higher red line also.

You will still have an ls engine in the TBSS so you are still good to go.

A lot of you guys dont know cold. As good as the Durtymaxs are in the cold (for a diseasel) still not as a reliable as a gasser for those real cold mornings, plugged in or not. Moze I cant really see you needing one, unless you plan on massive trailers. They're a hell of a lot more expensive in every way too. I dunno the only experience I have with them is all the failures that come through work. At least 2:1 over the 6.0s. So I am kinda biased. Hell that one behind my truck in my sig pic not even touching 150000 miles yet, and it's in for a complete top end. Plus you dont seem like one of those tools that buy one just to have a diseasel, because there the hot ticket right now.

stick with what you know and are comfortable working on. dmax's are great if your towing something, but if not, just a waste of money

p.s. if you want lots of towing power, cummins is where it's at.

Ill throw in my cents haha!
I like the desiel but maintenece is outrageous, all my friends with duramax's have to carry extra fuel filters and not to mention cost of oil/filter to change is little more than the gas.
If you have dpf on the truck the fuel mileage is horrible esp if you run a tuner on it without the delete. I like the lly motors myself for fuel mileage and reliability but then again you won't have those worries with a 6.0 haha!
Good luck, tough decision to make.
01 RCSB Race truck that is slow.....
