The major issue with the 60e is it was designed for lighter vehicles. All the internals of the 700r4/4l60e are small and work fine for a light duty daily driver but when you start putting large amounts of torque or load on the parts they love to shatter. Clutches burn, shafts break, planetaries shatter, splines strip. If the 60e was strong they'd put them behind the Duramax.![]()

Oh god. Since when do 5.3/6.0 swaps equal Duramax torque? Me and the OP are using them behind mild gen III swaps. Somebody said they won't last. Well I disagree (when built properly). Of course there not going to last behind Duramax torque and towing. But they are in 3988lb trucks running 9's. I have rebuilt these trans and are very familiar with their operation and their limits. I would love to have a 80 in my K5 or Camaro but will cost more than I want to spend. Lets just agree that they have their place.![]()
The 700r4 is legendary for issues. GM had class action lawsuits against them because of the 700r4 back in the day. You could help the OP by building his trans up to specs to make it last, that's what friends are for right.
To the OP: Welcome to Street & Peformance has a lot of adapters to make the 700r4 transmission cable hook up to LSx based vehicles. Give them a call and see what they have to offer.

thats funny... when rebuilding a th350 they say to replace about 3 seperate parts (planetary gears etc) with parts from the 700r4 if you want a stronger trans! most people dont do the proper maintenance... or they tow in overdrive and then say the 700R4 is shit... theres nothing wrong with it.. it actually had one of if not the lowest first gear ratio of the gm transs when it was still made.. which is more desireable to many for drag racing.... the 4l60 to my understanding is basically yhe same trans but computer controlled...
