I have a 91 Silverado 2500, and in the rpos it has the code
MT1: Transmission - 4 Speed Auto W/Elect Controls H.D. (Hydra - Matic 4L80 - E).
I also have a 99 Silverado 1500 that I will be putting this engine in, some time in the very near future. Does anyone know if the older tranny will work in the newer truck with the wiring conversion?

If it's this Red, I'm not too sure. I think it will work just fine with the electrical adapter and crankshaft extension with bolts and proper flex plate(maybe off the old engine that the transmission came from). I did not know that they made the 4L80E all the way back then.

The old truck has a 5.7l with tbi.
It is kind of a strange running truck. Just driving it, it doesn't seem to have much power, but when you are pulling a trailer, or a heavy load in the bed, it doesn't feel like you could stop it.
Anyway, that would have the same flywheel as the 4.8/5.3 if I am guessing correctly.

Nope, the previous style engines had a flat flywheel. The new ones are dished.

Well, I have no idea then. Everyone tells me I should just sell the old truck and use the $2-3k I get from that to help with the cost of rebuilding mine. I just started studying up on the transmissions, and can't figure out why everyone buys level 5 60es that can handle 5-600hp, when a 80e stock can take 700hp for less money.

A properly built 4L60e is behind a 1000+ HP Fbody in the NE and ran an entire season without a single tear down. I don't know what it's curb weight is but that's got to account for something.

Yes it'll work, harness did not change.

80E came out around '90 or '91...

Thank you X. The cooler lines, and every thing else are the same also.

That's fine that one can handle 1000hp, but I don't want to have to worry about maby having to tear it down in a year. I have a truck that I want to be able to take on vacation, or go on a 3 hour drive, or go fishing at a remote location, without having to worry that my transmission may or may not be ready to blow at any second.
I don't mean to sound like I'm arguing, but I need the piece of mind with my dd that needs to be able to be completly dependable.
