So what do you guys think about the new block that gm is coming out with?

This is something i was throwing around.

    LSX BLOCK
New LQ9 heads, intake manifold, Fuel rails, 47# injectors, 90mm Electronic TB
    Strock Crank
    236/244 .581 cam

And all the rest of the accessories off my current 5.3L.

That will be a pretty sick setup wont it?

Out of all the motor parts the only thing i dont understand that well is how is compression calculated. What kind of pistons should go in that motor?

forged pistons is the only way to go. To calculate compression you need the CC of the head, the stroke and bore of the piston/crank and the thickness of the compressed head gasket you will be using. there are compression calculators on the web that will make that a lot easier to do than if I told you how to do it. You'll have to determine if you are going forced, N/A or N/A+NOS to determine how much compression you want to run and which pistons to buy. Nitrous pistons have the top compression ring moved further down to increase the strength of the top of the piston land. Turbo pistons will have a pocket milled in the top of them to lower the compression. I think you'd be better off talking to a builder and getting the engine sourced for your application built to your needs. It's worth the extra money for their expertise and a balanced rotating assembly.

Not worth spending the cash on the new GMPP LSx block if you arent going to throw a big crank and big pistons in it otherwise your 5.3 block or 6L block would be just as good.

I said i was going to stroke it. Is that not going big or can i go bigger then just stroke. Is that cam small?

Ok then guys. Lets build build this motor the way it would make us all drool. The motor is going to be my project next year.

Lets start off with the LSX Block 4.25 bore.
    What next guys?

    "Strock Crank"

sorry for our confusion but the spelling IS closer to stock crank than it is to stroked crank.

Sounds like a healthy cam but don't decide upon a cam until you know what you're going to do, what size bore, stroke, how much manifold pressure you'll run if force induction, header type if any, intake style,....numerous things need to be considered to work well together. If you can find someone that has a really good engine you'd like to duplicate, ask them for specifics. A lot of guys love it when you ask, others are very secretive.

If I was building a badass motor and knowing what I have learned with my 418 here is what I would do

    of course the LSx block
some JE pistons with a THICK compression height(atleast 1.3" or bigger)
    callies rods and crank
    4.250 bore and 4.500 stroke=510ci
    ETP 255 heads
Solid roller 260*+ cam(big engines eat up cams I ran a 237/242 in my 418 and my new cam is a 246)
Morel solid lifters(they can be rebuilt for only about 200 bucks best lifters out there 450 a set though)
Jesel J2K shaft rockers(badass pieces perfectly balanced and the 1400 buck price tag to boot)
Chrome-moly pushrods(have to use a pushrod length checker to get the perfect length its not going to be 7.4 like most)
    Jesel belt drive
    ARP main studs
ARP 1/2" head studs and O-ring the heads/block
    ARP everything else
Ported Vic Jr with a 2 stage nitrous kit and Edelbrock 4barrel TB

I can spend other peoples money very well, FYI you will have 20K into that motor valvetrain and heads alone will cost you almost 8K

If you want something more realistic(that is unless you got the money for the above setup) I have a second choice motor setup
