    Lq4 or Lq9??

hey buddies, I have a question for you guys.. how can you tell if a 6.0L engine is a Lq4 or Lq9 by just looking at them from the outside? the casting on the Lq4's heads are 317's right? might be wrong.. that's why I'm asking.. in case I'm right, what does the Lq9's heads say? or is the another way to tell??
    thanks!

so, if they both have those heads, is there another way to tell one from the other?

only way to really tell is to pull the heads like mentioned above or use a scope to look through the spark plug hole at the top of the piston...If its flat its a LQ9, dished its a LQ4.

I had a question about this, not that it really matters anyways because my block has brand new Mahle forged pistons now, but my block originally had flat top pistons in it and cast iron heads. I was pretty sure it was an LQ4 because of the cast heads, but with flat pistons??

flat is better for NA builds and Dished is better for FI applications.
