heard there was a diff. between F body and the GenIII. The GenIII has a plastic thing to hold the lifters when pressure is released. Is there a spot on Ls1howto for specifically the GenIII

Correct me if I am wrong but a LS1 is a GenIII motor. They are interchangable. Yes If you take the Rockers off and take out the push rods the lifters (should) hold themselves up. Its called the roulette method. If a lifter does drop... well it isnt a day chore anymore. You can take pin magnets and use them to hold up the lifters for extra insurance.

Do you mean from falling in the motor when you pull the cam out? If thats what you mean you can use 5/16 wood dowels. This is what I used and havent had any probs for nearly 5k.
