Okay, bought a used 80e today to replace my old one. Thought I'd get you guys input and opinions. I bought this unit at a salvage yard. The dude at the place told me its a 2003 and had 23,000 miles on it when pulled. First thing that happens is they bring me out about a 91 model. Next I tell the guy that he's trying to pull a fast one on me and I want my money back. He says it was an honest mistake and that the part puller guys just grabbed the wrong one so he says he'll go make sure they get the right one. They bring the correct style unit out to me and the ID tag is missing. It was the correct style so I accepted it. On the way home I stopped at the carwash and cleaned it up. On the end of the torque converter the time/date stamp says it was manufactured 01-18-01. This has me concerned that he may have pulled a fast one on me. The fluid is medium dark. I pulled the pan and the magnet had magnetic particles completely around it but no thicker than 1/16". There was fiber material very lightly coating the pan, nothing more than I have ever seen on a good transmission. What do you guys think I should do, use it or return it? They do have a 90 day warranty if I have it installed by an ASE certified mechanic. Anyone know one of those local? Billy, are your or Dustin ASE certified? Interject your opinions guys!
