    4wd to 2wd,

is it possible or even worth it? my brother in law was talking to me the other day and suggested it. and i was going through it in my head. i know on my old awd eclipse i just pulled the shaft out going to the center diff and there you go rwd eclipse. but is it that easy on 4wd trucks?

Pull the 4wd transmission and transfer case and convert to a 2wd transmission. Then pull the front drive shafts and differential. That should free up a few pounds.

You would make money on that kind of swap.If you sold the leftover parts...

i don't think its worth it for me if you have to switch trannys, because i just got a fully built trans. how much weight does the 4wd add, does the extra traction offset the weight? just wondering. either way i'm probably just gonna make more power to make up for the weight. i think its usually cheaper to go with what you got.

i was just looking up curb weights, and my silverado z71 is actually listed at around 4500lbs. thats about the same as my TBSS. i thought the silverado's were around 5000. now include the weight savings of no rear bumper and no spare. and my trucks close to a 2wd right?

Don't count on it. My REgular cab shortbed last time weighed in at 5400 lbs. It is a Z71.

I don't think there should be. I am going to look closer at my fat A$$ truck and see where all the weight is.

Do TBSS have a solid front axle or CV shafts?.... I know tahoes have CV shafts... I dont think you can just remove the CV axles and ditch the transfer case.. There is nothing to per load the Axle bearings on the front Since 2wd have a true Spindle with a shaft for the Brakes/bearings to Ride on and support the truck.... So you will have to remove the sprindles/brakes from a 2wd for the swap... cannot just remove the transfer case since the case is different... Most 4x4 measure speed from the output shaft of the transfer... New rear driveshaft.... NO WAY in hell i would spend the money and time it would take to complete this.. you will be well ahead to sell what u have and get a 2wd.... As far as 4x4 weight.... I am pretty sure WILDERACING has posted his Stock ex cab 6.0/4l80 4x4 truck is 5000lbs... makes me Sick !
