You can use it but by the time you buy all the adapters and brackets to make it work you could have picked up an 4L60e or 4L65e from a salvage. Sell your 700r4 to offset the cost of the 4L60e

What adapters and brackets do you mean? I'm in kinda the same boat with my Vortec 5.3 and the 700R4. Sure there's a mount for the TV cable that's needed, and a $35 spacer for the flexplate, but other than that?

Looking for an ignition coil for my 5.3.. Got one?

Got to have longer bolts to go with the spacer. Street and Performance may make a throttle linkage adapter for the kickdown cable. You'll have to wire in a connection for the lockup convertor and some kind of switch to power the lockup. There's a wire on the brake pedal switch that has 12v coming from it but when you step on the brake pedal the power cuts off, a very good power lead for the convertor. You might need to get a longer kick down cable from someone like Lokar, they might make the linkage adapter also. $35 is a great price for the spacer.

Whoops.. it was $44, and the bolts are <$.50 each..

Thanks for the heads up on the longer cable & the bracket. I saw the one from Bowtie overdrives, but OUCH! $$$

In my case, going to a 4L60E would also mean a $200 adapter to make the 4L60E's output look like my 700R's output... so it's worth it in *my* case to keep the 700R.

Now to find a stinkin throttle body that will work.

    700R4 issue:

ok as far as the lock up i have a painless wireing kit right now that locks to converter using vacuum pressure so all i will need is a vac port off the LS1 so that is no big deal.

will the bell housing on the 700 bolt to an LS1 or is there an adapter plate that you need?

also that being said how does that spacer that was listed really work? and will a TV cable from a camaro with the TPI motor work?

    different issue below:

the LS1 i am looking at originally had a 6 speed behind it but i will go auto do i ned to talk to allen to build me a harness that will convert everything from a 6 speed to an auto once i get a 4L60E?

Get Allen to build you the complete harness and save the headaches for other obstacles. The bell housing will bolt right up to the LSx engine minus one bolt hole. I believe the material is there for a bolt hole, you just have to drill and tap it. As for the cable, I honestly don't know. Lokar has a cable kit that is universal/cut to fit for the 700r4 tranny. For the price, it's worth it.

ok cool so if i get the motor and find a tranny the allen can hook me up with a custom harness... very cool. i will probably sell all me 700 stuff just so i dont have to worry about it.

hey red the motor i am looking at getting has like 119k miles on it but i have read the full records for the motor and know the guy a little thru other people that vouch for him and the motor has not been abused. but is that too many miles on one of these LS1 motors?

granted i plan on abusing te hell out of it eventually but do not want to have issues as soon as i start it...
