For the past yearI have had problems with my truck (2001)not starting at times, I orginally thought I had fuel pump problems but after checking the pigtail connections at the fuel pump and fuel tank pressure switch I could get the truck to start. After this when the truck failed to start I could just unplug and replug the fuel tank pressure switch and the truck would run fine. I never have a problem when the truck is running only when I start. I replaced the pressure switch and thought I had the problem fixed untill yesterday. I did the usually unplug and replug and it starts fine. I have no SES light on.

That's the way they act when the pump is going out. Pull the pump and also check the electical connection going to the pump on top of the tank. The little connections melt up there on some of the older pumps. Mine were black from resistance/burned the hell up. I had to buy a whole new drop in assembly to repair it with updated connectors. You're describing exactly what my 97 would do before replacing the pump assembly.

I have checked the connectors at both the fuel pump and the pressure switch and they look fine. It is hard to think that this problem is only at occassional start up and not while running if the pump is bad. You may be right though. I hate to spend over $400 for a new pump and that not fix it. If I new it would that wouldn't be so bad. Thanks

If the connectors are good, check or replace the fuel pump relay and replace the in-tank pump with a Walbro. They're about $100 for the pump. Allen at Nelson Performance or Billy at TRT can get you the exact one you'll need. They replace them all the time.

I have changed wheels since this pic, these are 20's I went to 18's because they were lighter. 4" in the back and 2" in the front

My truck would start if I just shook the wires going to the fuel pump and I talked to a GM mechanic and he told me he had seen several with bad pigtails to the pump, GM offered a replacement pigtail which told me there must be a problem here so I installed a new one and haven't had a problem in a week, I also noticed on my old pigtail that one connector was burnt and rusty and that was the black wire which I think was the hot one. Maybe this will help someone else if they experience the same problem.
