Yeah. For the camper shell it is saying that is considered a passenger compatment therefor it has to exit out the side of the vehicle. Moze has no camper shell and it says the tailpepe discharges exhaust from the rear side or top of the passenger compatment. The key is the bed of a truck isnt a passenger compartment so as long as you have turndowns that expell the fumes away from the cab you are ok. Some inspectors may be dicks about it though. It is all up to the inspector if it is ok. Just make sure they turndown after the cab.

Mines already dumped at the axle.

I was also thinking of losing the cats. Is there a 'friendly' inspector in the area?

I wonder if they consider the hard tonneau cover as a "hard shell cover" and that is why they told me it must exit the body of the truck?

I would think by a hard shell cover they mean a cap, not a bed cover.

This is the muffler I'm leaning toward:

Maybe they do it for your pets. If you put your pet in a pet carrier and then put the carrier in the bed of the truck and close the "hard shell cover" they'd have to breath the fumes if you dump the exhaust at the axle.
