There is an Lt1 for sale locally from a 93 formula. Now I have seen performance magazines and it seems 95% of the aftermarket is for the 94-97 LT1. What is the difference? I know something about the type of intake is different. Is there a way to modify this lt1 to buy the performance parts of the 94-97 lt1's or are they different engines?

Nothing wrong there. The LT1 has been around a very long time and died in 97 with it's final installation in the Fbodies. LT1s were in the Impala SS with steel heads, Corvettes and fbodies with aluminum heads. Corvette LT1s have a four bolt main cap. There were LT1s in Corvettes and Camaros in the 70s and if I remember correctly they started out in the late 60 Corvettes.

The LT1 was first available in the Corvette in 1992. In 1993 you could get one in a Camaro or Firebird until the intoduction of the LS1 in 1998. 1994-1996 were the years the LT1 was available in the Impala SS.

As far as the Gen I small blocks, The LT-1 (note the dash) was first available for the 1970 model year and was available until 1972.

Well, I have good news and bad news. I'll start with the good.

Good for me:
I did purchase the LT1.

Bad for you guys:
Looks like I'm going to stay here for the long run, and bother the living crap out of you guys with questions once I get ready to do the swap.

Seriously though, you guys seem like a bunch of cool people. Hopefully my semi-retarded questions won't agitate you guys too much.

this is an old thread but the dif in the 92/93 v. the 94-97s is that it was speed density and the 94+ we MAF.

there are a few differences between the LT1 years. the 92-93 were the first 2 obviously and were speed density. the 94-97 all had MAF but the 94 did not have a vented opti like the 95+ cars did and there for pre95 LT1's are more prone to opti failure. the 92-94 share the same type of opti and the 95+ share the same. also some 95 LT1's and all 96+ LT1's came with dual cats which was good for another 10 hp. unless you have a serioulsy modded LT1 like my 96 motor the speed density will fit you fine but i would recommend upgrading to a vented opti, you can do so with a MSD opti or you can change out the timing chain and what not needed for the 95+ opti. another thing you may want to look into after the swap is done and the bugs are out is the Delteq ignition, it makes optis last longer and gives a hotter spark, but its a $700 upgrade.
