Thread: MAF to TB

    I have two MAF questions:

    1) How critical is the distance between the MAF and the TB?

    2) Anyone know what problems may occur if I add a 90 degree bend between the MAF and the TB? (instead
    of before the MAF)

Just looking for a little extra room up front.

    The steam hose:

I am going with "Nitrous" and will plug off the spud under the TB. That spud is a 1/4", I do have an extra spud on my radiator but it is 5/8".
    UNLESS
Someone knows of a hose with 1/4 on one end and 5/8 on the other.

    Jon

A 90 degree bend in your intake tract after the MAF will not seriously affect the operation of the engine. Lot's of folks have their air plumbing set up that way.

As to your deletion of the steam line, I have heard of several people dead heading that line and they have reported no problems. However, I am of the belief that it is there for a purpose and should be used. I placed an adapter in my heater hose to connect that line as I had no fitting on my radiator. You could probably use a combination of adapters to hook that line to your radiator

return the steam line back to the radiator if you can. I'm sure you can rig something up. Maybe a 5/8 copper line with a cap soldered to it and then drill a hole in the cap to braze a piece of 1/4" copper? 5/8" brass connector with a 1/4" brass connector j-b welded together or brazed? You can get really inventive, it only has to hold about 15 lbs of water pressure.

    Thanks guys.

Ok, re-thinking the deletion of the steam hose. Prior to my post I purchased reducers (2) to drop from the 5/8 to 1/2 and 1/2 to 1/4 as required. It just looks pretty cheezy. Working on other options.

Can't find a local used 5 pin MAF, so I think I will have to buy new. Should I consider an aftermarket or stay with the OE ($235) one?

"RedHeartbeat" thanks for the line on Motorsport Technologies. The Z06 wheels look pretty damn good on there (obviously my opinion).

I need to figure out how to post some pics.

MAF is the last thing to do to fire this thing off (I think) Then off to the bodyshop to fix the door damage caused by the thieves.

Go to photobucket.com and create an account there so you can store the photos there and then post a link here to the photo.

not critical, usually radiator spacing or clearence issues.

    what i have found is:
using a screened MAF for air intakes that have bends in them like the trucks and restricted intakes like
the f-body cars. corvettes and ssr used non-screened MAF because of the straight forward air intakes.
im going to go MAFless as i need the room and less headaches in tuning especially for transmission.
