The coolant logic is what I&#39;ve always heard, also. Honda&#39;s been experimenting with ceramic engines and running them glowing red hot. They&#39;ve had a lot of success and get tremendous fuel mileage out of them.

Yeah, they are getting tremendous fuel mileage out of them because their thermal efficiency is nearly 90%. The ceramic engines are quite the technological step, but they are veryyyyyy brittle--they are only good for one race...so you can only really start them once and race it once before they blow up or break apart...
