Yeah - got a little of the OCD myself and it bugged me putting it back together like that, but I was out of time and also unsure of how best to clean everything in general, and how to clean it without getting a bunch of crap down in the block.
You're lucky enough to get to allow it to get dirty. Mine is together and apart often enough that it doesn't get a chance to get dirty.![]()

OK on a serious note - this is my personal first time taking the intake off...
So is it seriously worse than 'normal' (keep in mind its an '03 so it's had time to get dirty)?
And what's the best thing to use and method to clean the intake as well as the block/heads without knocking a bunch of crap down into the heads and block?
I take my shop vac and get all the loose stuff off first, shove some rags down the intake runners and then use whatever you can find to clean it with on a rag. Lots of hand cleaning with rags soaked with solvent, paint thinner, mineral spirits, kerosene, simple green, orange citrus cleaner....whatever is your preference. Keep an extinguisher handy if you use flammable solvents. I take lacquer thinner and wipe the intake runners down in the heads if I want to clean them up a bit. Like I said, lots of clean rags. Wear chemical resistant gloves to protect your hands from solvents. The purple ones from Kimberly Clark are good for that kind of work.

Gotchya. So the intake runners are the 'ports' in the heads or are they on the intake? I know, I'm a dummy.
yeah, the intake ports are in the head. The intake runner is the short part inside the plastic intake. Don't use lacquer thinner on plastic. My brain fart there on the intake runner terminology.![]()

Well wonder of wonders...Virgil and I logged from Mesquite to Arlington and as soon as we started logging, all the way there, the O2 sensors registered perfectly. So I still don't know HOW they're related, but replacing the knock sensors and harness seems to have fixed it.
Bump - anyone know how these things are related??
