Don't descreen your stock MAF sensor. It will cause issues.

Red is right. Doing so would cause a SEL, improper air/fuel ratio, horrible gas mileage, poor idle quality, etc.

The only reason you may get some extra hp is because it is dumping in more fuel???

If you go aftermarket, you do get some extra hp, but your mileage is horrendous. The cost of the MAF outweighs the hp gains IMHO.....

unless you change your intake to where you MAF is directly on your throttle body, and the filter is sticking straight out from the maf there will be turbelance...the F-body guys can get away with descreening because their intake is alot more direct. truck intakes make all kinds of bends and turns which disturbs the air. the screen straightens it back out to get an accurate reading.

I've been running a granatelli maf sensor with no screen and a K&N FLPK kit, Helix TBS for years, last time i had it checked my air to fuel was good and it idles smooth my mpg is about 17 to 18 city, i dont take many long trips. id like to get a screen to put back in it to c if theres any change though. MPG figure in the fact i have to shift 1st to 3rd lol.

The Granatelli MAF is calibrated for use without a screen if it didn't have one in it to begin with. There are a lot of aftermarket MAFs that don't have screens. The factory MAF is calibrated for use with a screen.
