    Thumbs up

Guys, my buddy has a stock LQ9 that he's going to swap into his his 2000 in place of his 4.8. He needs to have his PCM tuned for the 6.0 but he wants to go ahead and swap engines. Will it hurt the 6.0 to run on the 4.8 tune? If so, what problems will it cause? Thanks

It will run very lean. That's not good for an engine. It will not do the 6.0L any good.

hmm, okay. he was wanting to get it in but it'll probably be towards the end of the month when he could get it tuned. we didnt know if the PCM would observe MAF and 02 readings and adjust the stock perameters for the 6.0 to run safely. thanks for the help!

It needs a base calibration. When a code comes up that returns the PCM to limp mode it will be feeding the engine 4.8L fuel levels, good for fuel mileage but bad for the engine.

well in that case let me ask another question. will a PCM with a different VIN number still run the engine in his truck or no?

That will have to be answered by someone that has tried it. I don't have the NBS electronics and my VATS is disabled. I know it looks for the signal from the BCM and if it's not correct for the PCM it won't let it run but a few seconds. You can try putting the 6.0L PCM in your truck and see if it runs, that is if you both have drive by wire or both have cable driven throttle bodies.

just for future references, the truck WILL run with a PCM tuned to a different VIN

If you know anybody with say HP Tuners or something I know on their website they have a section were you can get file bins and load it into your truck. The reason I say this is b/c I have HP Tuners I bought it for my 98 Trans Am and am able to use it on my 98 Camaro. b/c it is the same year and they both have the LS1. Thought it might help alittle. If your on any truck forums besides this one or if someone on the site has HP tuners for a 2000 V8 engine truck in your area all you have to do is load it in and your good. My brother just ordered his 6.0 to do a 4.8 to 6.0 swap aswell and thats all he has to do

'04 Chevy Silverado ECSB -LQ4/80e swapped, 799 heads, Comp 212/218 114lsa, TSP LS6 oil pump, LS1 e-fans, LPP LT's, ORY, Magnaflow muffler, and a slighty tweaked tune

It will be fine to run on that pcm, he just dont want to get out there and make any wide open passes....the truck may idle a lil bad but other than that I think he will be fine.
