Here's a post I made on another board earlier today...

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am finally making progress. I spent over an hour trying to get the crank bolt out of my busted motor... tried impact gun & propane torch (to heat it up), but the damn thing won't move. After about 1.5hrs of my time was wasted, I pulled the crank bolt off the C10, spent 30 minutes cleaning the rust off of another old pulley I had, put the propane torch on it for about 10 - 15 mins, slid that pully onto the 4.8 (with a snap), bolted the crank bolt with the impact, and now I'm taking a break for lunch.

Here's some pics from yesterday on up to quittin' time last night:

Friends came over to see the carnage

The #7 rod is on I-12 somewhere... the piston has yet to be found (oil pan still bolted)

Bye Bye 5.3... bay looks empty w/o a heart.

This is Nick... he worked his ass off, with a soar back from a car accident 2 weeks ago!

New motor in place... no it's not a 6.0L either... Yukon may soon be on a used car lot.

Now, here's where I'm at now...

On the home stretch. Just have to finish routing my harness to the A/C compressor & starter, get the starter off my C10 (I'll buy a new one later) & bolt it to the Kon, finish bolting the y-pipe back to the manifolds, bolt the water pump & fan back to the front, bolt up the Alt & PS bracket, slip the belt on, hook the battery back up, fill with oil & coolant (water flush first), and HOPEFULLY my problems are solved.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Donor motor is a stock, low mileage 4.8L longblock... thanks to a local guy that works in a performance shop. I've been thanking people left and right for any and all help that was provided to me. My upper body aches like hell. It took 20 hours from start to finish, and done it in 1.5 days. I'm satisfied with the outcome, but sad b/c my Kon isn't quite MY Kon anymore. I'll be finding a new home for it. I still have my C10, but I had to steal the starter and crank bolt from it to get the Kon going for work in the morning. I'll try to remember to take pics of the old starter. The rod that blew outta the motor cracked the starter housing bad.

At least you still have the C10 and all its components minus the starter and the crank bolt.

That's a good turn-around. You've got some helpful friends. Sounds like time for a kegger next weekend.

Floored it to merge into 70mph traffic. Ford wouldn't move out of right lane to lemme in. i had a truck ridin my tail on the on ramp, so i floored it to get in front of unfriendly Ford. Motor went bye-bye soon after (2 seconds). Speculation is the trans slipped on the 2-3 shift, and I bounced/skipped the rev limiter, then kaboom. One of the guys in the pic blew his 5.3L like that a few years ago. Said some people spinning 5.3Ls over 7k rpm. His went South at 6500. Mine died at 6k (rev limiter setting at time of BOOM).

Yeah... I may just do that for the guys that helped out. I'll say one thing, they are a bunch a cool dudes that I can reliably call on when absolutely necessary. And... they can call on me for the same.

Get back where? The Kon's running. Drove it to work today (100 mile round trip). Runs fine, except there's a small exhaust leak. I'll fix that before I put it up for sale. I need better gas mileage anyhow. Gotta figure out if I can set the PCM to 5.3L, and still keep the 4.8L cylinder volume value.

    I know, I know... deceitful.

    It's official!

    The Kon is GONE!!!!!!!!!& #33;!!!!!!!!!& #33;!!!!

Honestly, it will be missed. However, my piece of mind comes first, so I cut my losses and opt'd for the better deal in the long run. The bright side is... I still have the C10 to throw money at trying to make it fast.

Bye Bye, Kon... Good luck at the auto auction! (pardon the crappy cell phone pics)

Hello Ricer... Welcome to the rice fam!
