back in the 70s they might have tried that. Today, NASCAR is highly regulated and all teams are so equal it's getting hard to tell them apart. All engines have a max engine size of 358", I think, and every part and piece bolted to the cars/trucks has to come from approved vendors. They must run a specific compression in the engine, specific size carb, specific types of fuel pumps.... They do this to keep the races fair to everyone. Even the small budget guys can afford to race with the guys with multi-million dollar contracts because they know what the limits are on what you can do to the engines.
