i think that goes back to the whole coversation of; high flow = top end, restriction = low end

If you hollow out the cats you can cause fuel to store in it until it burns there. Shops I talked to about 86ing the cats said that if you have to pass a visual inspection you'll have to hollow the cats and the best thing to do is the shove a straight pipe through the cat so the exhaust won't pool in the hollow core of the cat. When I had the LT1 in the truck it had a blown cat and the truck backfired in the cat quite often and it sometimes sounded like an explosion out the tailpipe.
