A 408 is a stout engine. It dropped a full second off my 1/8 mile times from my 5.7L LS1 times.

I think AFR heads are a great head. I believe they can be improved with some porting. From what I hear the ETP heads are some of the best heads out there fresh out of the box and don't require any additional work to be done to them. The AFRs flow good but for about the same money you can get the ETPs. I haven't heard anyone bragging on the Dart heads yet. The Patriot heads are good for minor performance gains, in my opinion. I've heard of Patriot heads often times causing engines to lose power. Sometimes they work great, other times they are no better than stock. I've got them on my engine and I have mixed emotions about them. I love the price! I cannot complain one second about the price. Nice looking head for the money. I'm almost tempted to put my 243 heads back on to see if they help or hurt the performance. You guys know me, I just can't leave stuff alone. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford a set of ETPs.

What about a good intake? Is the stock LS6 intake a good one to use? I looked at the FAST intake and it's like $800, damn that hurts for a chunk of plastic.

LS6 intake is supposed to be good for 15HP over the stock LS1 intake on a 5.7L. I don't know if they tested one on a 408. The 408 demands a lot more air. I think that's what is limiting my HP output at this time. Maybe a 4 barrel style intake with about a 100mm throttle body ought to wake the 408 up.
