i was wondering if anyone could give me a step by step to puting this motor in, also could someone also tell me were i could find a wire diagram for both my truck and the 4.8. if this is possible because i want to do everything myself to save money. the motor that is in my truck is the stock 350, it is a 4-wheel drive truck, the motor i bought will be here soon, it is coming with the wiring harness and computer and all the engine accessories. This motor came out of a 2001 chevy. i would appreciate any help that anyone could give me. I just hope that i'm not getting in over my head.

trt is doing a swap to a 6.0 block for me in my '93 and no u can not use the stock wire harnes...you have to have a lsx wire harness and pcm ...you should try to get the motor, tranny pull out you want with all the assys and wire harness...it will save you a ton of money and time...

the search button on this forum is your friend and there is a shit load of swap info here or just ask redheartbeat and he can answer all your questions since he is a whizz at swaps

Hmmmm...never heard of that before. I wonder if you can just swap out the internal transmission wiring.

is there anyone that knows someone that would be able to tell me if this is true or if there is something that you can do to make this work. i just hope i don't have to change the transmission. if i do then i will just have to buy a vortec motor and get the vortec manifold for the tbi. i was hoping not to have to do that but money is a factor in this for me. any help is appreciated.

redheartbeat how did you set up your tranny, you do have the 4l60e right. if so could you help me. i would appreciate any help and thanks in advace.

Why not contact a transmission shop Monday. If anyone knows, it will be them. You can also call and talk to the guys at Street and Performance. They will tell you anything they know. They'll steer you down the right path.

Let's try these questions one at a time.
1. While there is no step by step guide immediately available (RedHeartbeat has started one however) there is a lot of info available here if you use the search function... and check the FAQ. Quite a few folks here have done 2WD swaps and have posted lots of details. While there will be some differences with your 4WD swap, much of the basic motor swap stuff is the same.
2. For wire diagrams for both your engine and your present truck, you have a couple of options. Subscribe to Alldata on the web, or pick up a GM techline CD on Ebay that has multiple years of data. Additionally you could go directly to Helm and pick up their complete set of manuals (kinda pricey however).
3. As to your trans, is it a 4L60 or a 4L60E? I am not familiar with early 4L60Es and if there is a wiring difference someone smarter than me (just about everyone here) will need to give you info on that. If it is a 4L60 (no "e") You could possibly use it, but since it is a "dumb" trans you would just reflash your PCM (computer) to make it think it was a manual. That will prevent a whole sh** pot of tranny codes from setting and confusing things. You'll need to flash your PCM anyway to correct for gear ratio and tire size in addition to removing the anitheft provision (VATS), so just have the tranny stuff changed at the same time.

I don't know if I can add much content, but I will say this...

The bellhousing on the pre-99 4L60Es are different from that of the latter. I found this out the hard way. Odds are, your 4L60E may be different. Check that! I was under the truck pushing up on the trans before I found that out. Damn thing wouldn't mate properly. Lucky for me, it was a removeable bellhousing.
