I did not break the case but did have to remove the tranny to recover the stuck servo (it was cocked/lodged in the bore); fortunately in my case I was able to clean the servo bore with 400-grit and saved the original case. Make sure that the snap-ring is seated all the way around, especially at the top of the servo bore.
