...OK, I didn't really, but (this is how you know you're thinking about your truck too much) I dreamed I had like a blast gate that would divert the cold A.C. air directly into the intake box rather than into the cab.

Kind of makes one wonder....

I wonder if you can do something like a rear remote a/c unit set up in front of the air intake/filter. That's crossed the mind numerous times.

A turbo shop in Austin has taken exhaust leads to turbos and created a shroud around the pipes filled with argon gas. Apparently it keeps all the heat in the pipe and out of the engine compartment.

When Ford was coming out with the now ill fated new SVT Lightning it had a chiller that used the A/C lines to produce a mondocooler type box which was said to give like 50 hp for short blasts...... seems to make sense to me...Doug

Does anybody know if the compressor for vehicles with rear A/C is different (P/N, cfm) from the same vehicle with front A/C only? How about the condenser? If they're the same, you could tee off of the liquid and suction lines to an intake air precooler or chiller heat exchanger. That way, the A/C and precooler could operate at the same time. You would need a bigger receiver/drier to hold the extra refrigerant.
If the front only setup doesn't have the capacity to run rear A/C, then you would need two liquid line solenoid valves. One would be open for A/C, the other closed, and visa-versa.
I've given it a lot of thought about how to set up the controls and piping, it's entirely do-able. The best you could hope for with an air precooler is about 20 degrees temperature drop. With a water cooler, you would only be limited by the capacity of the storage tank, and how much time between WOT runs that you give it to chill the water. The water temp. would be limited to about 30 degrees (with glycol), below that you would need a bigger compressor, condenser, and receiver.

Yeah when Billy and Dustin were installing my cam I told them about my 'nutty dream",,,Dustin said it wasn't actually too far fetched...Lightning was supposed to try something right along those lines. See, I do some of my best thinking when I'm sleeping!

Anyway, I agree - it's entirely doable. My question would be if running the A.C. would negate the gains of the cold air through the intake...?
