Just swapped my torque converter from 2600 to a 3000. Before the swap I lost traction easy if i stomped it from a stand still. Now i barely get a squeek. Shouldn't i have more power at the wheel from a 3000 rpm launch? What would cause this?
Also after the install i added 1/2 qt fluid and then another 1/2 after 30 miles. Could i have too much air in the lines? I do have a large cooler also.

How does it feel when you launch? Does it pull hard or does it sound like it's revving excessively like it's slipping?

it pulls hard, doen't feel or sound like it's revving excessively or like it's slipping. Just feels like I dont have as much power low, but that makes no sense.
We will be going to the track in a week or two and logging some launches to see what really is going on but this has me tweaking...

Maybe has to do with the STR!Yes I would also thin that you would have a harder time getting traction

Yeah something doesn't sound right for sure. That is the whole point of a stall is to get you in the meat of your powerband outta the hole. I'm assuming you double checked everything installation wise right. Did you make sure the T/C was seated all the way on the input shaft? I'm not even sure you could get the tranny bolted back up if it wasn't but I'm just trying to think of something that could be causing a problem.

I had the install done by my Tuner. It's not leaking so that is a plus!
I emailed Yank and this was their response.

the converter has a lower STR 2.0 from 2.25 to allow the engine to push into the converter to get stall speed up,
When a cam is used it lowers the torque at low rpm and to get into the stall you need a lower STR or a smaller in size converter that has less of a hydrodynamic load between the engine and transmission
when this is done you get a converter that pulls harder all the way to peak rpm but you can brake stall it higher also

Could .25 STR make that much difference? Will this end up costing me time on my 60'? I already eat dirt with a best 60' of 2.26 making the 1/4 in 15.01 seconds at 94.03 mph (5350lbs.). Obviouslyi 'm hurting on my low end which is why i asked Yank to send me a new converter to begin with. The original TT3000 would only stall to 2600 behind my engine.

The way I decipher that, he's basically telling you what you already know. He's saying that when you install a bigger cam you'll lose low end torque thus the need for a stall converter to put you in the optimum power range of your engine's new powerband. And by using a converter that has a lower str and is smaller in diameter it uses less power yet helps the engine to pull harder because of less slippage. If I'm correct in my interpretation then it is my opinion that smoke should be boiling off of your tires at launch.

I would put a tach on it and put it in drive with the brake fully on and see what rpm it runs up to before it overcomes the brakes. Report that to Yank and see if that is correct.

I have a tach. It stalls at 3000 but i cant overcome the brakes unless i lighten up on them a little!
I'm pretty frustated with this one.....Gonna get to the track in a week or so and log some runs with my Tuner. We'll see what's going on then, i hope.
