I guess if you've been following my saga this weekend you've heard the news. A nasty nitrous explosion took out two spark plugs, cylinders 7 and 8, damaged the throttle body butterfly, and messed up one of my heads. I am looking for a set of LS6/LS2 heads to replace them if someone has a set available at a good guy price. I hear the 317 heads are about the same only they have lower compression. I don't want to give that up quite yet since forced induction isn't in the game plan at this time, maybe later. If you have a set or know someone with a set of these heads, hollar! Oh yeah, I will need a set of valve covers to go with them.

I would buy a set of TEA 241 or 243 heads for the money RHB. A friend of mine bought a set of 241's for $1000.00 and took them to G-Force and they installed them, dyned them and they said OMFG!! He gained 100 HP at the rear wheels with his mods. This is on a 2000 Camaro and they blew away the stock 243's and you keep the 7.4 pushrod length unless you need the longer one's. Sorry to hear about the backfire. Were you retarding the timing 2 degrees for every 50 HP? I know you were using copper plugs there in the pics, was it a 100 or 150 shot and was it dry or wet? You might want to buy an MSD DIS-4 also to help with the NOS.

Running stock timing. Second bottle through the engine with 150 shot pills. 1st bottle, no problem, now KABOOM!!! Yeah, maybe I'll get Allen to back the timing down even more. I think I'm only running 24 deg of advance right now. $1000 is out of reach for me right now. Maybe later on I can pull the heads off and get them ported. I just want to get something back on there that will keep me happy until then.

Have you looked on ebay? I just looked and there are several sets of bare 243 castings for under $500.

Yeah, I've been watching some. Most you see under $500 are bare castings only. Not a real issue only thing is I'll have to buy valves. Mine are too short for 243 castings. I will re-use the springs and retainers.

OK I know this is the parts wanted forum but I have to ask this. Your valves are too short? I know the LS6 heads had longer valves but I thought it was only due to the fact that the cams base circle was smaller not because of anything to do with the head itself.

Yeah, the stems are just a tad longer, .025" I think. Mine would work but they are trashed. I don't trust the machine work that was done on them. I have two stems that have flattened out and are level with the retainers now instead of about 1/8" above them.

Don't take this the wrong way, but could this have anything to do with your low dyno #'s and E.T.'s. Did they set the heads up(seat height)? Do you think something was wrong in that part of it or was it just the machine work itself?
