I know I have done that a few times when I worked at the dealership when we didn't have the key. Most of the time I could just put alot of pressure on the cap then twist and it came off. But I really havent found anything other the the usual stant at walmarts and such. I guess we will get one for the time being and that should detour them from trying again.
The insurance is covering it fully for the repair and we found out that it didn't make it to the tank. The way the filler tube is designed it has a 90 degree down from where it enters to a 90 degree turn straight towards the tank with a little bit of a upwards travel for a few inches. So the sugar just packed up and that was it.
Mine on the saab was junk it came off locked or not
