long story on the cam...i slipped the cam in, and came up with a HUGE exhaust clearance number. i checked the ICL on the cam and came up to 100* instead of 106*...cam was ground incorrectly, i purchased the cam used from a member on another forum but the cam was unused. I called up howards cams and they told me to send the cam back ASAP. the guy on the phne was very helpful and apologised 10 times. although it was a sour taste having a cam ground incorrectly, his attitude and eagerness to fix the problem was refreshing. i wish more vendors were as helpful as howards was in this situation.

new cam comes in and the exhaust is clear, but the intake valve wouldnt clear the piston. no biggy, been here before. called up lindy tools and ordered me up a piston fly cutting tool. made some time over the weekend to cut the intake side on my pistions. i had to cut .090 off to get .072 valve clearance with checker springs. now i have .072 int and .099 exhaust clearance. i can finally zip this bad boy together and start worrying about getting a transmission going.

the motor is almost done. waiting on some .025 shims so i can get the lifter preload right. .050 shims that they supplied was only .025 preload and no shims at all was at .100 preload so my math says .025 should set it in the perfect area. this is using 7.750 pushrods.

got some done on the truck over the weekend. pulled the front clip and bed, leaned the cab back. the motor is loose but the starter wouldnt clear the motor mount and i was running out of daylight so i called it quits. about 15 minuts of work and the motor/trans will be laying on the ground.
