Wow you got a steal for that engine and tranny! Almost better than my free LS6 with a dropped valve lol. Good luck with the swap, that's a nice looking Tahoe!

I'd take an ls6 over this any day. I do plan on selling the trans though and recouping some if not all of my cost. The overall goal is to do this swap as cheap as possible. That means repinning the factory 99 harness over to ls1 instead of using an aftermarket harness. I won't be stingy on the important things like the mounts, I have a set of ebay's and they are worthless so it will be dirty dingo mounts for sure.

Please document the wire harness as you do it,I have read you can use the obs harness with a 0411pcm and extending the injector wires.

I've read it also but haven't found any decent pictures or documentation of it. From what I hear though all you do is repin the harness to an ls1 pattern and reprogram the computer. If anyone has any links or info I'd be glad to hear about it.

Ok for my own info this is what I've read for converting a Gen III Vortech to a Gen IV LS1.

    Repin harness to ls1 pinouts
Change the Injector Plugs to LS1 style
    Reflash PCM
This spot if for one thing I know I'm missing.

Yes I do, I've had three in the last few months. I purchased one for cheap on craigslist and they guy said it needed just a water pump. Once I fixed the water pump it ended up having a blown head gasket. I was going to fix it up but my wife and I had waited 2 years to go on a honey moon becuase of my deployment so I bought another one for our two week trip to the Moab. When I got back I decided I didn't want a truck with a body lift and sold the second one back to the guy I bought i from and bought the one I'm doing the swap on mostly because I wanted this color.

Here is the one we took to Moab, if you click on the link to my Flickr album there are tons of pictures of our trip to Moab and more of the truck.

And here is the broken one, I'll end up fixing this one and selling it to fund my swap.

This is from lextech@GMT400 forums(hope it is ok to post here.)

If you have done the 0411 swap then you will already be well on your way to the Gen3 install. You will basically need to add 10 wires from the PCM to the coil pack harnesses. You need to cut off the big CPI connector and wire up your 8 individual injector connectors and lengthen/reroute the CKP connector. The additional correctly colored wires and coil harness connectors can be purchased from EFIConnection.com Your PCM will need to be reflashed with the correct calibration and a couple of additional parameter changes for the Gen3 calibration to operate the fuel and tach gauges properly. I have a wiring file for the changes that need to be performed to an already 0411 equipped truck. I don't understand why anybody would want to reharness their truck when this repin with a few additions is so easy and inexpensive.
