Check this out, My MIL light from the PCM is Dk Brown where it goes through connector C100. On the 98's it says it's not used in C100. Trust me there are some major harness differences between the years. A friend of mine took his 96 V6 out and put in a vortec 350 and the wiring ate his lunch from the differences.

Yea, the '98s the MIL runs in through the connector on the passenger side. Definately sounds like some big differences
Old: 1998 K1500 White ext cab stepside, vortec 350. Stock besides Volant intake.
New: 1998 K1500 with stock LS2 besides LQ9 truck intake and 8.1L Marine injectors. Dynotuned, 350rwhp, custom 3.5" exhaust, '02 F-Body Racetronix fuel pump setup. All wiring, exhaust, motor brackets done in shop.
