Ok im new here and iv been reading about all the 5.3 engine swaps and ls1 swaps into the old body style trucks and its seems kinda dificult. what i want to know is the basic things i would need to swap out to andy of the LS engines. I dont need the ac or anything like that i just want to drop in the motor and make it run. what parts exactly would i need to do this and how much would it cost me all together. my truck has the original 5.7l HO engine in it with i guess the 4l60e transmission, its ext cab and 2wd. getting an engine is no propblem i can just go to a junkyard and get one but i would juss want to know what it takes to drop in an LS engine in and make it run. Pics would greatly be apreciated.

Your final costs are going to depend on how much mechanical and electrical abilities you have. If you can do it all, you can do it for about $2000. If you have to buy everything already done for you so that you just bolt it together, you're looking at $4000-$5000 depending on how much you pay for your engine and which one you get. If you get an engine that has a water pump driven radiator fan, that will save you the cost of an electric fan and harness. Since nobody here but yourself knows your mechanical abilities you'll pretty much have to guess-timate your own price.

alright cool, my mechanical abilities are good i can fabricate my parts if needed thats no prob. also iv seen motors on ebay and there not very much like i just want a plain 4.8 or 5.3 ill upgrade later to a 6.0l the motor mounts are the same right? im sure they are. is there any compony that already makes motor mounts already custom fabricated? i guess the only real question im asking here is how much work it would take to drop it inwitout the a/c or anything like that i just want it to run just have the alternator and power steering thats all i care about, i want my truck to be all performance. ill post up pics prob tomarrow so you can see what im working wit.

oh yeah while im here i was gunna ask are those oem corvette rims on your truck like iv been wondering if the f-body an vett wheels would have tha same bolt pattern as my truck. like i was thinking about the zr1 wheels or just go with some smoothies from boyd

You can get engine adapter mounts on Ebay for the LS1/GenIII engines for about $30. Yeah, those are GM original chrome Corvette wagon wheels. They have a 4.75" bolt circle. The truck has a 5" bolt circle. The wheel offset is waaaaaay outboard so I ordered wheel adapters to put them on. I have 2" wide adapters from MotorsportTechnologies.com out in Cali.

The install is very straight forward, it's pretty much a bolt in thing. GM P/S hoses bolt right in. The P/U engine clears the accessories very easily. The LS1 is a little tight but fits fine, also.

Yeah, I have some of the engine bay. It's not clean or even close to finished but it drives daily in it's current state of installation. Ignore the location of the upper radiator hose, I was working on the engine at the time I took the pictures and had moved the hose on top of the P/S pulley to get it out of the way of the valve covers. It normally goes behind the P/S pump. That is a truck upper hose and I installed it backwards for clearance.

Thanks for your help i think im pretty sure now that i want to do this swap, it doesnt look very hard or that time consuming as long as i have the right parts but like i said that wont be a problem, im going to UTI this aug. and we have all the tools and parts there so i think this is going to be pretty fun. we even have a dyno on campus with a drag strip close by so give me a few months and will see just how fast i can make this truck
