Splice into vss wires or cut them?

I've got my swap mostly done, but I don't have a working speedo and getting a P0608 code. I have mph showing on the scanner and it works on the scanner. I cut the wires going to the factory vss and put the wires from my swap harness on the sensor. Should I have just spliced into it instead of cutting them? I have a 95 k1500 rclb.

Turns out I should've just spliced into them. Hooked the original factory vss wires back up to the sensor along with the swap harness wires and my speedo started working.
