And the general rule of thumb is .007=1cc. So if heads are 70cc, then .030 would net you right under 66cc heads. I would go with .030 and a thinner gasket to get your compression up to 11:1, or .030 or a stock gasket to get 10.7. This is assuming you run the flat top LQ9 pistons and running 91-93 octane.

Again, if you aren't looking for compression quite that high, you can not mill them quite as far.

    LQ9 pistons + stock gasket + stock 70cc heads = 10.2
    LQ9 pistons + .040 gasket + stock 70cc heads = 10.5 <----------cha ching?
    LQ9 pistons + stock gasket + .030 (around 65.8 cc) = 10.67
    LQ9 pistons + .040 gasket + .030 (65.8cc) = 11.05
    LQ4 pistons + stock gasket + stock 70cc heads = 9.44
    LQ4 pistons + .040 gasket + stock 70cc heads = 9.73
    LQ4 pistons + stock gasket + .030 (65.8cc) = 9.87
    LQ4 pistons + .040 gasket + .030 (65.8cc) = 10.18

It took me quite a while to run all these numbers lol. After I did, I realized that I used 4.030 for gaskets. So these numbers are just a tiny tiny bit off.

Thanks man I really appreciate all the work.
I can only get 91 octane out here so I was shooting for 10.7 but 10.5 and no milling sounds good.
Would they not be the 4.030 gasket?

MLS replacement, part number #12589227 is 4.020. I guess it depends which ones you get. MLS are also .051 thickness. Numbers fudge based on which gaskets you go with. Stocks would be 4.030, so I guess my numbers are clean.

If it was my ride, I'd be going with the 10.5 CR just because it doesn't require milling.

Also the ls3 heads seem to be 68cc's so I might be perfect.

Also, it was brought to my attention that pistons may stick up past deck height slightly, like .008. That's going to raise it a little too. All my calculators were at deck.

Bit late on this but as far as custom cams go, mine is an off the shelf unit with the LSA tightened up 2 degrees, that's it. My dyno chart looks exactly like I wanted it too, my truck drives, performs and sounds exactly how I wanted it to. It doesn't need to be a ground up one of a kind design to be best suited to your combo.

I wasnt saying it had to be, but since it will be a nelson tune I will go by his advice.

On another note is 175 shipped a good price for a L92 truck intake, no TB.

After much research, I think a cam like this would fit my requirements.
