I have a Jetta TDI 2001. Just a few things. If you get an auto make sure it is at least a 04 or newer. If you get a TDI shoot for a Late2000to2005. Other than that I really like mine. Plan on expensive repairs and general maintenance. Don't use an oil filter(K&N) they jack up the MAF's in about 5 miles of driving. Other than that take any you want to look at to a VW guru. Not any shop a VW specific shop(not a dealership) and get it checked out. So many expensive little things go wrong on these and figure the cost of a timing belt change into your purchase they are almost never done correctly as VW's need it done very special/specific ways. Good luck!

The thing that's so appealing about this one is that the guy is a huge VW enthusiast and the owner before him also was.

Recent stuff done was timing belt/water pump, rear brakes

    New since I got it:
    Both front wheel bearings
    4 new Dunlop tires
    Alignment
Front and rear console pieces, updated to newer style with cup holders
It's an 02 GTI with a 1.8t and 5 speed...the engine isn't exactly stock. It has a stage I tune, and an aftermarket diverter valve

If that is all that's done I wouldn't worry too much. One thing though... Who did the tune? If it is Malone, or the like then I would keep the tune and upgrade the clutch. Some VW tune's are sketch tho.

The current owner doesn't know but I'm sure I could get in touch with the PO and find out. I'm not really looking to have something to go fast in, just want something to DD without being bored so I don't really plan on doing anymore upgrades to it. If the clutch goes out on me I'd probably get one that's slightly better though

Sounds good. I was just thinking about it and I think that year of GTI actually has one of the better clutch flywheel setups. You should be good to go. Enjoy it.
