Thread: 02 2500hd 6.0

yeah, i dont plan on powerbraking or anything but it would be nice to be able to have the power to atleast chirp a tire or somethin, off the line its dead till about 20-30ish then it starts to pull harder, ive been told that can be fixed by getting a cam and stall, but the stall will come in a couple months. for now its the cam.

anyone have any idea on a tool to hold the lifters up while replacing the cam? ive heard of the pen magnets trick and ive heard of metal or wooden dowels. what size dowels and how does it actually work?

    Did you watch my video?

Yeah, I watched, my old blazer would do that also, but the fact that a 2500hd won't spin tires from a dead stop on wet pavement w/o powerbraking blows...

I use a 1/4" dowel rod as a lifter retention device. A little larger would probably be better. No lifters have fallen yet. If you haven't done a cam swap in an LS based engine you can check out LS1howto.com. I have used that site as a reference quite a few times.

I believe 3/8 is the perfect size.

I've heard of people using tight wooden dowels and soaking up oil and getting stuck because of swelling... any other special tools I may need? Also does anyone have the torque specs for all the stuff? Rockers, cam gear, timing cover, waterpump stuff?
