    Oil Filter Selection

NOTE: This is not a question about what BRAND to purchase, so please, I'm not going there.

I bought an A/C filter the other day to do an oil change. I noticed when I pulled the old one, it was a PF46 (I believe). The new one was a PF61E. It was bit longer, but otherwise appeared the same width and screwed right onto the oil filter boss. Started the engine with no leakage issues, so I'm thinking this is golden. I'm just wondering if anyone knows which one is the correct filter, or does it even matter? I like the idea of the longer filter for any vehicle. Brings back memories of using the BBC filter on the SBC because it held more oil and had more filtering capacity. Any thoughts?

The f bodies use a shorter filter that is the same as the trucks but doesn't stick down below the pan. I've used both and can see no difference.

The A/C book list the PF46 as the replacement. But if it seals up fine I would use use it. Going to check this out when I go back work Monday. Thanks for the tip.

46's for trucks and some f bodies
61's for lots of chevy, buick, pontiac, and olds cars

I found out about the PF61 filter about 5 years ago and when I asked the parts guys a the dealer they told me it was a severe duty filter, so I started using them.
