Picture worked great. Have you thought about sliding the engine back towards the firewall until you have about 2" of clearance and then modify the mounts to work in that position. I couldn't imagine having to settle for it sitting too far forward. You can always have a mobile welder come make custom brackets for you if you can't take it to them by tow truck. I haved used my AAA membership a time or two for items/work like that.

Actually, I think I'm going to leave the motor where it is. I've got about 4.5" from the crank pulley to the radiator, and I think I can gain a little more by redrilling the radiator mounting bracket holes. I'm real happy that the A/C compressor fits with no frame or relocation mods and If I move it back anymore there will be interference problems there. As to firewall clearance, I could slide the motor back a bit more but I've only got about 1.5" until the rear coils become a problem. I think I'll avoid using the hammer any more and leave it where it is......

Update: I haven't stopped working on the truck, I just moved on to areas other than the motor swap. Just completed the 2.5"/4" drop and power disc brake installation. More work that I thought, everything was covered with 40 years of grime and numerous bolts would not let go.... broke a few along the way making a parts run unavoidable...
But man, what a difference in attitude!
Next up is the fuel tank relocation to get it out of the cab (I'm using the poly Blazer tank), fuel pump and fuel lines.
I've been playing around with stock intake parts but apparently I won't have room for all the bulky stock stuff and will have to fabricate something.
Looks like a BeCool/Spal 16" single electric fan will fit my radiator but is kind of pricey for the whole module, which includes brackets, fan, relays and wire harness (~ $300). I guess I could just buy the fan alone and fab up my own brackets.... My radiator core is 22 x 18, anyone have a suggestion?

I have the LS1 Camaro fans from a 2002. I fabed up my own brackets and it works great. I'm sure you can find some for around $100.

What are the dimensions on these and did you use the whole module? I have done a similar swap on my 68 Camaro and I used LT1 fans but the radiator on the Camaro is much wider and that assemby won't fit my narrower truck radiator. Are LS1Camaro fans different or did you separate the fans from the mini-shroud and mount them separately?

I used the whole setup. I didn't realize the radiator is so small in those trucks. LT1 is the same or very similer. I guess you could swap to a cross flow radiator?

I used the Black Magic fan on my LT1 setup. It's small enough and pulls about 2800 CFM. It also has a built in thermostat.

Thanks for the reply. I checked out your pics extensively and sent you a PM before I started my project. The pics in your gallery do not show the motor mounts and it appears the left framerail has been narrowed considerably from stock. I was curious what mounts you used as I was scrounging parts for my swap. But it's water under the bridge now. My motor position is set and I'm happy with it. Thanks for posting the pics, it's good to see more old iron!

Yup, it's definitely narrow. I have already swapped to a cross flow BeCool aluminum radiator....

Working on the fuel system now and I was curious. Does anyone know of a GM in tank pump that used the old small lock ring style attachment rather than the large diameter modular pumps that are in the new trucks? Maybe the old Buick Grand Nationals? I'm using a poly Blazer fuel tank and would like to sink a stock style in-tank pump in it if possible. Here's a pic of what I working with. The stock fuel pickup is lower left, the fitting on the upper right is the sender for a new fuel gauge. I have a external inline hi pressure pump I can use but...... Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

Maybe this will work better for pics. I'll keep a bunch of pics on the swap at Photobucket
