Boost is an offset for compression. Final compression is where the power is at. An 8-1 engine will need a lot more boost then an 11-1 engine to make the same power. The lower the compression the lazier the engine will be while not in boost. To offset that you can up your timing while cruising but only so much.
The higher the compression the better your fuel, timing, and parts need to be. And you have to keep your air charge cool to cold.
If you are good with tuning you can run higher compressions with great results. If you miss it; it will eats itself up with knock.
Keep an eye on air fuel, air temp, fuel quality, (meth adding), and timing, and you should be fine.
Myself I am at 9-1. But our plans are probably different then yours. Not much street driving for me.

dunno but the thought has been in the back of my mind ever since the dang mishaps i been having screwing with this NA crap lol!!
