03 rcsb 4.8: fullybolted with 100 dry shot
future: 6.0, stage 2 heads with tsp22x cam and 3xxx stall.
I just read through a few different threads here and I'm in the same situation. Truck's burning oil, dealer say's they're trying to help but I have to bring it in every 1500 miles....they've "sealed everything up" (their words) and we're monitoring. The truck has about 89000 miles on it and I was hoping to have the truck for a longer period of time.
The dealer told me there is a normal oil usage of like .5 qt's of oil every 2000 miles??? I find that very hard to believe. I can see the oil getting dirty but being burned is pointing to rings or head issues I would think...I worked on engines a long time ago.
Any tips regarding this obviously faulty engine issue? Things I should watch for or use as evidence to prove that they need to go deeper here?
It's actually very common. These motor's just plain old burn about a half to a full quart like you have stated every 3000 miles. Not totally uncommon although I have found since I switched to full synthetic mine is burning a lot less.

Safe to assume 2008-2009 4.8? I can't remember the exact issue, it's been almost 2 years since I worked for GM. But there was a known issue with them, and that line the dealer is giving you is pure BS. I want to say it's something with the driver's side head. PM GasGuzzler on here, Nathan is a GM tech (and a damn good one) and is very helpful

Just wanted you to clarify, did you put those heads on or did they come with the engine? Are they original to that 6.0L or some you had and slapped them on?
thanks,
allen

how does it have 10:7:1 compression, cause of the 243 heads?or does it have different pistons? ive always wondered if i were to take off my l92 heads for a set of 243s if it would bump up compression?
Sounds like the setup is similar to the LS2.

Wow, if you worked on engines "a long time ago" you were used to having to rebuild an engine at 89k rather than worry about .5 quarts at 2000 mile consumption. My 408 used to go through a quart every 500 miles when I had small tires and 4.10s, oil vapors burned out the exhuast.

That's pretty odd that GM would put cath heads on a 6L, wonder why they didn't use the vette ls3 heads.
I never noticed before, just assumed.
