Thread: Finally got the 6.0. Finally. now it gets fun

  1. #31
    well let's see.
almost got this hog running...been out of the country since xmas, just returned on the 1st of this month.

4L80 installed, used transdapt's mounts on the engine FYI.
I thought I was gonna need to buy the Lokar kit for shifting the 80e, but my buddy and I found a bunch of early 90s 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks and one had a mechanical linkage for an 80e which dropped right in and works throughout the entire shifting range of motion. Kinda pleased about that.
engine is in, I used the stock converter (yah, I know). wired up for the most part, still need to put the OBD2 port in and wire the check engine light.
I gave the truck power and I can hear the IAC moving and no sparks or burning smell, so that's a plus. lol
Ordered some tranny cooler lines from rockauto for a 99 K2500 with the 80e and no aux cooler, should fit but we'll see.
Got a good deal on an HBx radiator, so that should be good.
unfortunately, the HBx rad is so thick that it takes up the edge where I was gonna slip the efans into soI'll need to fab up some bottom brackets for them but whatever.
    uhhh what else...
headers should be here in a day or so.
the added length of the 80e enabled me to reuse my stock rear driveshaft, so that's a plus.
hydroboost is almost ready to go in...just need to order a hydroboost brake pedal from the dealer since I haven't found an auto truck with hydro from 88-94. Found a couple of 95 and up hydroboost pedals, but no dice thanks to the interior change in 95.
installed the vortec PCM mount and bracket, along with the driver's side aux battery tray.
I know it isn't the best flowing piece, but I picked up a stock GM air cleaner assembly as opposed to a cold air box kit for the sake of cheapness. will it flow less at high rpm? probably. This isn't really a speed demon kinda truck, really.
I'm gonna need to massage that air box in somehow since there is a battery where it is supposed to go, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there
Hopefully the cruise control will function as normal, it should since I didn't cut any wires to it and the cluster does the work to control it as opposed to the PCM.
still need to throw the walbro 255 in tomorrow, that's kinda easy tho. -6an throughout on the fuel system, should be good.
Used the LQ4 throttle cable, no issues there. I thought a vortec cruise cable would work, but it's literally 1/8" too short...I hooked it up and it slightly cracked the throttle blade open...not good so I'll need to figure something out.
Still need to get another license from EFILive, but that's gonna be interesting since seem to have misplaced my authorization code for my V1. uggh

I throw some pics up tomorrow. it ain't pretty...need to clean up wires. i really hate wiring

ok so the th400 shift linkage is a definitely no go... it works but when the shift lever is in 'park', the trans is in 1. and vice versa. uggh
leaky FP regulator, no big deal to fix.
The UPS guy gets here tomorrow with a bunch of stuff, should make more progress tomorrow.

    couple pics.
yes i know the wires are messy lol. I'm workin on it; but hey, all the gauges work, the wipers and lights all work, the wiring is done.

I am done screwing with the steel braided line stuff. These pushlock fittings and hose are great. highly recommend them for a non flashy upgrade.

yah it's heavy as hell (for a radiator) too. cast tanks with big ass fins on the side...never seen that before. it's almost too big...

Ok, so made a little progress today. Torching off the IFS suspension tomorrow, although I installed the front ORU SAS brackets. got dark too fast.
It's coming along, slowly but surely.
Hydroboost in, still to install the PSC reservoir and plumb that out...

    more updates tomorrow

i think the trans temp on the 4l80e is circled in this pic. I know on mine its just a sensor with a wire coming out of it. i could get a pic tomorrow if you need it.

You are building a truck that is quite a bit like mine.
i have a 2800 torque converter and it does fine in the city, i had one guy yell over at me from the passenger side lane at a stop light "Hey! you know your tranny is slipping" I just laughed
