    1996 - 5.7 to an 8.1

Ok, so I've got a brand new 8.1 (8100, 496 CI) BBC, and I'm thinking of putting it in my 96 1 ton crew. I just put a brand new 5.7 in it last weekend, but I honestly think a 350 is too small for such a beast.

Where could I find a good place to get a harness, and all the goodies to do this swap, and still keep my ECP and all the other factory issued stuff?

Look for a harness from a 2001-02 3500HD. They had the OBS body style and had the 8.1L as an optional engine. Might be hard to find, but would plug right up.

www.hotrodlane.cc has them though they are proud of their parts when you hit the checkout button.

    Good ideas, thanks guys

Oh, and I have no desire to have a diesel engine.....the fuel is too high, and there is no money to be saved by doing so,

It won't be very often. Maybe once a year, pulling a small camper to the fishing hole. Maybe every once in a while, helping friends move stuff or something. Nothin extreme.

Okay because that is the real fun of the dirtymax its like ur not towing anything at all bc you still have your power and gas mileage. I think you would be better off with a 6.0 and bolt ons over the 8.1 better gas mileage and similar power. Plus the 6.0 leaves lots of room for future mods.

I have an 8.1 crate motor, so I'm trying to figure out a way to use it. I've tried selling it locally on Craigslist, and resort myself to a 502, or a 454, but have only had a few hits and discussions via craigslist. One hard motor to get rid of, I'll tell ya that.
