lechez71 is right though, if the milage is low that is a good deal. My 80k engine & trans was well maintained so I lucked out on my deal.Just make sure you're getting a 5.3 cause sometimes it's hard to tell the difference without taking it apart and looking at the stampings on the rods. Both engines use the same block. At the rear its stamped 4.8 and 5.3. I think the best way to figure it out without a vin code is to check the tops of the pistons. the 4.8 pistons are flat and the 5.3s are dished. I hope I haven't confused you too much.

The way I see it replacing a few parts on these motors and youll be fine with a high mileage motor, theres motors with 150 thousand miles on em and still have the cross hatching these motors dont wear out the break due to abuse but dont wear out with basic up keep.

I bought an entire wrecked 3/4 ton for $800 with motor and tranny, granted the motor did end up having 205k miles but still came with a warranty
