Depends on what cam you get. What specs were you looking at?

Either way, gonna need a retune and a stall too (not needed for every cam but u will be impressed). My 33's love the comp cam 224/224, 3200 stall, and 4.10 gears.

Check the for sale adds too. Always a lot of cams there. Then just get some springs and push rods.

Cam usually cost $425 new, about $100 for pushrods, and $200 ish for springs so the package sounds good plus Allen will spec a cam for you particular set up and he can tune the PCM as well.

I want more low end torque and power than mid to high end rpm's. Seems like most of the cams are mid range to high rpm for power. In regards to springs and pushrods, the truck I have only has 80k on a 2003, is it really necessary to change them instead of the cams alone?

First of all our trucks only have ONE cam not
multiple CAMS if yours has more than one you
might be on the wrong forum.....

And it's not that your springs and pushrods are
bad it's that with a new cam your springs will
more than likely be maxed out on their lift therefore
you need different ones that can handle the extra lift

Allens pricing is pretty well dead on. I belive I payed more then that for my cam kit. And as stated above the stock springs and rods are no designed for the increased lift and the pushrods aren't made to handle the extra abuse either. That is why its wise to change them all out. Last thing you want to do is break a spring causing your valve to hit the piston breaking the piston in turn shreading your motor... all cause you didnt wanna change a spings. Plus with a good cam and stall your truck will feel like a WHOLE different animal

I do realize the truck has "one" cam but the term cams is speaking of multiple cam(s) available to buy on the market. I of course will only be buying one new one :0)! But thanks for all the information, its very helpful.

I guess I am asking because I called Comp Cams to asked about the best cam for my truck and they recommended the XFI Extreme Truck and I asked about replacing the springs and pushrods and the tech support guy says "It will just need a spring and retainer kit, but the pushrods will be fine". I am just trying to do it right the first time and get ALL the needed components.

As far as a stall goes... Any brand recommended and what range to get it in (rpm's wise) and costs? Keep in mind I am going for torque and low end more than maxing out the rpm's! I appreciate the help as I just joing this awesome site! I go hunting a lot and do use the highway and love to cruse at 80mph even though just makes me stop for gas more!

Yank 2600 stall and get some hardened pushrods so ur stock ones dont break under load...

95% of the aftermarket cams out there will move your powerband slightly up, but you make this up with a higher stalling torque converter (not a stall converter, that's starting to bug me). The LS motors aren't real bottom end monsters, yes they can make gobs of torque but not til 3000 rpm or so.

Circle D would be te way to go for a torque converter. The rpm range would depend on the cam, but a normal range would be 2800-3200. I'll be getting a 3200 for my 219/230 cam.
