I've had 2 benchmades issued to me. Liked them, but don't really have anything to compare them to. Both were the spring assisted/push button style. Lost the first one, and the tip on the second one broke while I was trying to pry open a toolbox in Afghanistan. Both were half serated and that came in handy a couple times. This was like the last one I had: http://www.stu711.com/images/bm-9100sbk.jpg . And benchmades have a lifetime warranty. as long as it's not misused. And blade replacements are only about $30.

+1 Even a cheap knife will last if you don't go beyond it's designated use. I use an old swing out Buck that I found when I was still in high school. Only been sharpened once about 5 yrs ago with super fine sandpaper on a workbench, and it's just now getting to the point of needing a stone put to it
I carry the Case Sodbuster at school because its small and doesn't have a clip. Around the farm and shop I use a cheapo lockblade that dad gives out to his customers at work. It needs sharpening a lot because it's soft steel, but it gets the job done without tearing up good knives doing stupid stuff.

I had the same knife just without the serrated blade. Loved that knife so much until it just disappeared.
