What transmission does the vortexmax have? 4L65E or 4L80E? The reason I'am asking is b/c in the 06 Silverado brochure it says the vortexmax comes with the Hydra-Matic Super Duty 4-speed auto, where as on the SS and 2500HD pickups the 6.0L comes with the Hydra-Matic Heavy Duty 4-speed auto. Which is which?

Also, does anybody have a 5-speed manual with the 6.0L in a 2500HD or know how strong of a transmission they are? How much extra HP will a 5-speed take before you have to upgrade the clutch?

Not much info as of yet but it seems they have heat treated a few critical parts and revised the clutch pack but other than that it seems it is a dressed up 65e.

When are the 6L65e and 6L80e supposed to hit the market? I see Saturn already is running a 5 speed auto.

No 6L65e to my knowledge but the 6l80e will be out shortly in the high end Caddy performance vehicles followed by other vehicles in GMs line up shortly.

The Cadillac has a 6 speed automatic in the STS-V. I wonder if it's a 60 series or 80 series transmission. The regular Cads have a 5 speed auto.

The V series will have the 80 series 6 speed in it FYI

In march Im am going to try and attempt the 6L80e conversion in a truck there is one other person working it right now that I have talked to on a couple of occasions and it just may be a viable option

Looking at the charts for the different trannies in the above link, the 4l80 will handle more torqe and HP than the 6l80.
