    Want to swap '97 into '07 - 09 Suburban

I have a 1997 Chevy Suburban with 300K miles. Things are beginning to need repair or replacing in general and getting get costly. It has a recently rebuilt Transmission, stock, and a 350 engine. I have a new crate engine. I was thinking about buying a newer used Suburban I know that needs a new engine instead of putting my new engine in my '97. Is that feasible? I know anything is possible. Not happy with the new 'Burb engines and transmissions. Thank you.

so your wanting to buy a newer burb but make it a carbed or injected like your 97 is? honestly you're stepping backwards imo. the newer LS motor can net more hp, fuel mileage than the older 350s. i just think its the wrong direction, but if thats what you want, yes you can do that. you could probably make it all work off of the new burb harness i dunno.

Depending upon where you live you may make the truck illegal to drive on the road by putting an older engine into it. Many states require the correct year model or newer engine in all vehicles to pass inspection. If you live in a state with no vehicle inspection you can do it. Personally I would keep the factory engine in the newer suburban and if it has a 4l60e transmission get it swapped out for a 4L80e for a bulletproof combination.

What is it that you don't like about the new engines? And someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but, assuming you have the 4-speed, isn't it the same tranny?

Pretty much the same tranny, 97 had 4L60E, I think they have changed to 4L65E same tranny with supposed improvements. Had old 350 motor with the vortec fuel system. They used this system for three years in the 1/2 ton trucks, a couple more years in the bigger trucks and G series van.

I have 300,000 uneventful, almost repair free miles on the 350 in my 97. The transmission is a totally different story. My father-n-law had a 2005 and it was alwas in the shop with excessive oil use. People I know with even newer models have had a lot of trouble with their engines too. Up until very recently, my '97 might use a pint of oil between oil changes and still gets 16 MPG overall combined, tank in and tank out. Better than my friends get with theirs. My mechanic doesn't like or give as good a review on the newer engines and fuel systems either. I need a newer body and interior and other things that buying a newer model would give me. But I'm weary of getting newer, different problems. Thanks for all the great input and advice!
