Having to pull the motor! sucks....

Went to do a cam swap this weekend and had trouble getting the old cam out. Finally after what seemed like an hour Cody was able to get it out. The 4th journal on the cam, second from the back was black, like the bearing was getting really hot. We took a chance and put the new cam in hoping it would be ok, started it up, and the oil pressure was at 6 maybe 7. So we're pretty sure its a cam bearing. Going to get the motor out this week and look at my options.

Heres the cam that came out. You can obviously tell something is going on with the 2nd journal. The last pic is the lobe where there was excessive wear. Its may be hard to see with the cell phone pic

looks like you need new cam bearings. I'd put a new oil pump in the engine while it's out.

    Greg

I put a new oil pump on about 20k miles ago. The oil pressure was fine before the swap. Im going to pull it and get the shortblock rebuilt. It should be an almost new motor, the top end only has about 30k miles on it.

whats your take on that one lobe being worn so much? Oiling issue also?

That's just terrible, was there any indication that the bearing was bad, low oil pressure etc...? I'm getting ready to do a cam swap and a I sure hope I don't fins anything like that.

There was no indication I know of. Oil pressure was fine with no fluctuation. The cam that cam out was a 216/220 swapped about 30k ago. Just glad We
found it during a cam swap and not driving down the highway, I'm sure it would h e cause alot more damage

looks like it starved for oil at one time and spun the bearing in the block, mis-aligning the hole in the bearing and the block.
