Figure out exactly what your going to be doing with this truck first. If you want a strictly track truck/old school style do that. If you want a street/strip/weekend warrior/take it out to get groceries, a genIII swap might be a better suit.

Wouldn't do it unless its a race built engine. Anything near stock is going to suck elephant nuts.

it would be an everything truck

Considering it was a factory option it would be easy, doing the same thing with my brothers 91 since he decided against a gen 3. (Before you guys go nuts, 4x4, 38's, Dana 60 front and rear. Big block preferred in front of a SM465)

A LSX454 would be awesome... Go for it!!!
A big block should be a bolt in deal. A big block bolts right in place of the old school small block. It just stands a little higher in the engine compartment and is a bit longer, so it's little closer to the radiator. You'd need big block brackets in front for the accessories which can be kind of pricey if you have to buy them new.
The bigger the better. If you can find something bigger than a 454 I'd check it out. A 454 is about the smallest big block I'd go with these days. Make sure it has good heads (not the tiny peanut ports).
Do it! Worked big blocks are badass!
Big slow mud truck with a TUNE!!!!!!
im thinkin bout it. i know a lsx would be sweet but when i fliped my truck i got a dmax. cuz i got more for the truck totaled then when i bought it runing
